Redland Education Centre is run by Liz Ogborne. An experienced primary school teacher, Liz taught for eight years before working as an RE Advisory Teacher for South Gloucestershire Council. She worked with the local SACRE to provide training and development to teachers in RE and to monitor and develop RE policy and curriculum. Liz is experienced in supporting primary and secondary teachers to plan and deliver a dynamic and interesting RE curriculum in their schools.
Liz is assisted by Clare Haynes and by Kara Gossen who works part time for the Education Centre and part time as a Youth Worker for Redland Parish Church.
Clare taught for nearly ten years at the Castle School, Thornbury as a secondary school teacher for RE, PSHE and Citizenship. She has a wealth of experience in terms of leading RE development across a school, planning and mentoring. After a career break to spend time with her twins, Clare now works on a voluntary basis running the parent and toddler group at Redland Parish Church as well as working part time for the Education Centre.
Kara grew up in Canada where she had experience of working with children on camps and as a volunteer in school from the age of 14. Kara graduated from the University of Waterloo, Canada in 2009 having studied Psychology. She then moved to Bristol to work full time as a nanny in a family of six children. She also worked as a volunteer in a local youth club and home-tutored a primary school pupil with special needs.

At REC, we welcome pupils of all faiths and none and seek to value and respect each one’s beliefs. We aim to offer an enjoyable and informative educational experience. It is not our aim to convert learners, or seek to impose on them any particular beliefs. We encourage a thoughtful, questioning approach to RE. We are guided by the RE Non-Statutory Guidance 2010 produced by the Department for Children, Schools and Families which states that RE should provide “opportunities to promote an ethos of respect for others, challenge stereotypes and build understanding of other cultures and beliefs.”
We encourage parents to accompany their children on a visit to REC, if at all possible, to see our work for themselves. Our workshops and trails are led by experienced teachers and volunteers, all of whom are appropriately checked for Child Protection purposes.
